“Fire Support Network plays a vital role in providing a link between the Fire & Rescue Service and the local communities we serve.”
Tony Newman, Chair of Merseyside Fire & Rescue Authority

FSN’s extensive service delivery is provided through a network of Volunteer’s across the Mersey region.

Our Volunteer’s are recruited from all areas of Merseyside from many different cultures, reflecting the diversity of our local communities today. FSN’s Volunteers work together with MFRS in achieving the core aims and objectives in contributing to a Safer & Stronger Community.

Tony Newman, Chair of Merseyside Fire & Rescue Authority acknowledges the immense contribution the FSN Volunteers make to the core values of the Service in Merseyside. It recognises that Volunteer’s enrich the lives of others in the fire service and in the community and how our partnership improves the lives of the people in the communities we serve.

Our Volunteers work in local stations and carry out a huge number of home fire safety checks through campaigns and out-reach work. In 2006 FSN Volunteers generated over 7,500 home fire safety referrals, delivered over 80,000 leaflets and completed 5,000 quality of service questionnaires.

FSN were responsible for organising over 30 campaigns throughout our region, such as The Winter Warm Campaign.

Our Youth Engagement projects include the likes of FSN Cage Football. FSN Cage Football provides direct engagement with a substantial number of young people from hot spot areas, offering diversionary activities to lower fire related anti-social behaviour. This has been extended into providing youth activity from Albion House, Everton on a Friday and Saturday evening when ASB is most likley to occur.

FSN’s activities and support include:

  • After Fire Care – Practical support to the victims of fire
  • Oven Clean – Reducing the threat of fire for disabled and vulnerable people
  • Water Damage Response – Support and help to dry out and clean properties after flooding
  • High Fire Loading – Collecting unwanted clutter which is potentially a fire risk
  • Youth Engagement – Providing voluntary opportunities for young people across Merseyside.
The Fire Support Network is one of the only established charities in the country which helps support the work of its local Fire & Rescue Service.
